Meet the Innkeepers at the Carriage House Inn
After searching for a Victorian home to restore for over 10 years the house at 404 Cabell Street in Lynchburg found Mike and Kathy! Driving down from Northern Virginia for a tour of the house they didn't make it up the staircase after seeing the main level before Kathy said “let's go to the office and write it up.” One month later it was theirs.

Four years later, after countless weekends, vacations and days off restoring, renovating and bringing the house into the 21st century, while maintaining its original charm and character, the house was ready for guests and visitors. Most of the work has been done by Mike and Kathy. They have learned an entire new set of skills ranging from stripping 8 – 10 layers of paint from the woodwork and mantels, to repairing plaster walls, to refinishing antique tubs and sinks, to glazing windows, to laying tile, to designing a “new but old looking” kitchen and how to rid the lot of pesky groundhogs.
Prior to moving to Lynchburg Mike owned and operated a successful real estate company in Northern Virginia. He graduated from Old Dominion University with a degree in real estate and has been involved with the field of real estate in one way or another since 1972. Most recently he has started a real estate settlement company which will keep him busy when he’s not cooking breakfast. An avid photographer, Mike hopes to be able to spend time improving his technique now that he’s not working full time.
Kathy graduated from James Madison University and taught home economics to 7th, 8th and 9th graders in Culpeper before moving to Northern Virginia. After working as a store manager for seven years she got her real estate license in 1984 and joined Mike at his firm. The world of real estate was challenging but proved to be the right niche for Kathy as she successfully helped hundreds of families find just the right house. In 2002 Kathy decided to attend massage school and has combined the two careers ever since. Stained and fused glass is her latest creative interest. She hopes to design and make windows for various rooms in this old house.
The desire to share this fabulous house with guests and visitors is what led Mike and Kathy to the world of innkeeping. Opening the house as a bed and breakfast just seemed to be the right fit.
Mike and Kathy look forward to welcoming you to their home and the city of Lynchburg.
