If you missed the inaugural Thomas Jefferson Wine Festival in 2009 you won’t want to miss this one. This is the last wine festival in Central Virginia for 2010 and even though it is late in the year, it is held in heated tents so weather shouldn’t be an issue. Because it is held in tents, there are a limited number of tickets for sale so don’t delay in purchasing your ticket. The Thomas Jefferson Wine Festival will be held at Poplar Forest (Thomas Jefferson’s summer home).
The festival will be held on November 20, 2010 from 11:00am to 5:00pm. Visitors will enjoy Virginia wineries, featuring the Bedford Wine Trail, local food purveyors and artisans, musical entertainment, and much more. “Mr. Jefferson” himself will also be present to talk about his love of wines and his home at Poplar Forest. Guided tours of Jefferson’s retreat home will also be available throughout the day.
Tickets are now available online! Please click here to access the ticketing site.

Ghost Walk tour of Historic Federal Hill
This year’s ghost walk will be in the Federal Hill Historic District. Mark your calendars to join volunteers of the Lynchburg Historical Foundation as they guide you on a walking tour of the neighborhood stopping at numerous houses to share stories of days gone by and those residents who, for whatever reason, decided to stay in their home, even after death.
The dates for the ghost walk are October 21, 22, and 23, 2010. Tickets are sold the night of the event starting at 6:00pm and are sold on a first come first served basis. There will be NO rain dates. The tour will start at 1101 Federal Street (intersection with 11 Street). Tours start at 6:30pm and every 15-20 minutes thereafter. The last tour leaves at 8:30pm. Ticket prices are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children. Group reservations for 10 or more may be made in advance by calling the Foundation office. Proceeds from this event will go to the Federal Hill Historical Society and the Lynchburg Historical Foundation. For more information call (434) 528-5353. This event is sponsored by Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory.
If you are staying at the Carriage House Inn Bed and Breakfast in Lynchburg during one of these tour dates you can receive a free ticket to the event if you mention “Ghosts of Historic Lynchburg” when making your reservation. This offer cannot be combined with any other offer or discount. This weekend requires a two night minimum stay to receive your free ticket.
Residents of the Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg, Virginia open their homes to visitors the end of October. Well actually, those visiting the cemetery will hear stories about numerous residents of Lynchburg’s oldest public cemetery. You will be guided from location to location within the cemetery where actors portraying various residents will tell their story of life and death.
This tour is a favorite of visitors staying at Lynchburg’s premier bed and breakfast, the Carriage House Inn Bed and Breakfast as well as countless locals. The tour dates are October 23rd, 28th, 29th and 30th. Tours start at 6:30, 6:50, 7:10, 7:30, 7:50 and 8:10pm and have sold out the previous two years. Several tour times have already sold out!
