Spring is here and the temperatures are warming up. To get into the season we decided to take one of my favorite desserts, a chocolate sundae, and make it a healthy breakfast starter. This recipe would be a delicious treat any time of year and while staying at Lynchburg’s premier Bed and Breakfast you can request this appitizer during your stay.
Sprinkle some granola into the bottom of a sundae dish.
Take a ripe banana, cut in half and then cut in half or thirds lengthwise. Place into dish as shown on the left.
Put a scoop of yogurt into the dish. You can use Greek yogurt as shown or regular vanilla or flavored yogurt.
Put some fresh berries on top of the yogurt, we used a variety of blueberries and raspberries but you can use whatever you and your family love.
Sprinkle with more granola.
We hope you enjoy this recipe from the kitchen of Lynchburg’s award winning bed and breakfast, The Carriage House Inn Bed and Breakfast. Our last guest that had this said it was “wicked good.” If you hate to cook breakfast give us a call and reserve a room. We would love to serve you our legendary breakfast each morning of your stay.
Our Breakfast Sundae is the appetizer before our main course entree when we serve our 4-course breakfast.
On Sunday, May 29, at 3 PM the Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg, Virginia, will host a Confederate Memorial Day Service. Taking place in the Confederate Section of 1,999 fallen Confederate soldiers plus 1 Union soldier, this unique Memorial Day service should be experienced. Scripture readings, singing of hymns and “old-time” songs, quiet moments of reflection and enjoying a beautiful Sunday afternoon are just part of the experience. You will also see people in period dress (it is encouraged), many of whom are direct descendants of those buried here. As part of Lynchburg’s history this event should not be missed.
It’s official, the Blue Angles will be at the Lynchburg Airshow on May 21 and 22. In addition to the U.S. Navy’s elite Blue Angles, the Flying Circus Airshow out of Bealeton, VA and a parachute show will also be featured. For those more interested in ground transportation, an antique car show will be on display.
Tickets to the May’s show are available at: www.Lynchburgairshow.com
If you are visiting from out of town stay at Lynchburg’s award winning bed and breakfast, The Carriage House Inn Bed and Breakfast, walking distance from historic downtown.
We met last evening with Dr. Neal Sumerlin, Director of the Belk Astronomical Observatory, Claytor Nature Study Center at Poplar Forest, just west of Lynchburg, Virginia. A fabulously clear and balmy evening allowed us to see and learn about numerous stars and other objects found in our late spring sky. Poplar Forest is just far enough away from city lights to not be affected by residual lights radiating into the heavens. A once a year event, we will attend again next year and you might want to also. Contact us in January for 2012’s date.
Visit Lynchburg, stay at The Carriage House Inn Bed & Breakfast and tour The Old City Cemetery during May to enjoy the Cemetery’s famous antique roses. Many of these 275 varieties of roses have grown in the cemetery for generations, having survived on family plots. Rooted cuttings will be available for purchase. On May 7th the 16th Annual Antique Rose Festival takes place. Then on May 8th a special Mother’s Day Rose Walk will be offered. Come visit, you will understand why this event draws visitors from near and far. The Carriage House Inn Bed & Breakfast will offer guests a special “Rose Getaway” to include a room of your choice, a rose upon arrival and a Swedish massage, in our on-site Massage and BodyWorks Studio, using an aromatic rose and champagne cream, starting at $299 per night. Visit www.TheCarriageHouseInnBandB.com or call 434.846.1388 to make your reservation and schedule your massage appointment. Restrictions apply.
