This version is being put on by our young artists.

The Academy Youth Theatre is a creative and challenging outlet for students who are interested in the theatre arts.  Kids learn to open their minds, explore different worlds through scripts, scores and characters and to be able to tell a story in a variety of ways–words, song, dance, mime and more.

This summer the Youth Theatre will be presenting four plays during the months of July and August:

  • The Lion King, Jr. youth theatre camp program will introduce middle schoolers, over a 2-week timeframe, to Disney’s story.  The African savannah will come to life with Simba, Rafiki, Scar and others as they journey to Pride Rock.  Everyone who participates in the camp will have a role, although auditions will be held for specific parts.  Participants must be between 12-14 years old.  The cost of the camp is $300 and will be held July 8 through July 20 between 10 until 4.
  • Madagascar, A Musical Adventure, Jr. will allow students between the ages of 8-12 to participate in a theatrical production where the cast members escape from their home in New York City’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on a journey to Madagascar.  Everyone who participates in the camp will have a role, although auditions will be held for specific

  • The Jungle Book will be performed in conjunction with Compass Creative Dramatics.  The one week camp will take place August 5 through 9 between 9 until 3.  Participants will race through the jungle against a band of jackals.  This camp is open to participants between grades 1-12.  The cost of this camp is $200.

Performances will be held either in the Historic Academy Theatre or the Warehouse Theatre.  The Lion King will be presented July 19 & 20.  Madagascar, A Musical Adventure will be performed August 2 & 3.  A Wrinkle in Time will be shown August 9 & 10.  The Jungle Book completes the season on August 10.  Ticket prices range between $9.00 to $20.00 depending on the performance date, time and seat location.
