The Holiday Market is opening soon. Don’t miss this year’s events.

Mark your calendar…..the Lynchburg, VA Holiday Market is back in 2019!

Saturday, November 2, 2019 is the day for you to shop, eat and have fun in downtown Lynchburg.  Over 100+ vendors and multiple food trucks will be found in the Urban Arts Garage, located at 1001 Commerce Street, starting at 8:00 AM.  The vendors, from Lynchburg and the area surrounding Lynchburg, will be presenting their handmade items and art work.  Get a head start on your holiday shopping and support the local non-profit Mission Empowerment.

Early Bird shoppers can purchase a ticket for $10.  Early Birds will be allowed into the venue between 8:00 until 10:00.  General admission tickets are $3 and allow you to shop between 10:00 until 3:00.  Tickets are currently available at www.hillcityhandmade.com.

Again this year Lynchburg Virginia’s Community Market is hosting their Mistletoe Market.  On Saturday mornings ( December 1, 8, 15 & 22, 2018), between 7:00 until 2:00 you will be able to find the best of local offerings as gifts for your family, friends or even yourself.

The Mistletoe Market features unique, hand-crafted gifts, foods and items that are sure to delight everyone on your holiday shopping list.  Choose from seasonal produce, fresh greens such as: poinsettias, wreaths garlands or swags, fire starters and natural decorations for inside or out, artisan foods, personal sketches as a portrait, caricature or silhouette, tasting tables, free gift wrapping and live music.  Carriage rides through downtown Lynchburg will be offered on the 1st and 18th between 10:00 until 2:00.  Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit to spend time with your children and to take photos on December 18, 2018 between 10:00 util 2:00.  And for the procrastinators out there, the Mistletoe Market will be open on Saturday, December 22, 2018 between 7:00 until 3:00.

The Lyncburg Community Market is located at 1219 Main Street.  They operate year-round, Tuesday through Saturday, 7:00 until 2:00.  The Farmer’s Market is open on Tuesdays (10:00 until 2:00) and Saturdays (7:00 until 2:00.)  Be a proud supporter of your community and the local area, you’ll be amazed with what you will find throughout the changing seasons.

Oxide Pottery, in historic downtown Lynchburg, VA, opened it’s doors in the fall of 2009.  The store is stocked with porcelain and stoneware goods made in the attached studio.

There is always a selection of wheel-thrown and hand-built functional ceramics as well as other handmade objects, such as wooden utensils, letterpress cards, candles, locally produced bitters and jewelry.  The most popular pottery items include plates, bowls, mugs, vases, garlic keepers, wine cups and honey pots.  Vases, ring dishes and various art pieces can also be found.  Seasonal items are produced throughout the year, including zombie mugs in October!

Soap/sponge dishes

Three potters are currently represented, Joe, Chatham and Justin.  As a former professor of ceramic and sculpture Joe creates artwork that he is proud to exhibit.  Chatham, Joe’s daughter, works  with paper patterns and textures to develop new patterns  of items to produce.  Justin, Chatham’s husband, creates functional pottery plus drawings and prints that are sold in the store.  The ceramics are made with lead-free glazes that are dishwasher and microwave safe.  The work produced in the studio is fired in three electric kilns on site weekly, offering a continuous supply of new items and custom orders.  Currently Oxide is represented in galleries and museum shops in 21 states through its wholesale line.
